Columbia University’s GSAPP Program
Columbia University’s GSAPP Program at Kadir Has University
In Spring 2011, the Columbia students of the GSAPP launched a revitalization project for the Golden Horn. The project aims to develop new urban renewal ideas for the districts of Golden Horn with a purpose of improving the local use of the coastline. The geographical scope of the project extends from the Ataturk Bridge to the Golden Horn Bridge, including the Cibali campus of Kadir Has University.
With the support of the Fine Arts Department and Istanbul Studies Center at Kadir Has University, a research trip was organized to Istanbul between 11-20 March, with an itinerary that includes a series of city excursions and meetings with local authorities, professionals and academicians specialized on urban development and the Golden Horn area in particular. At the end of their visit, the graduate students presented a report at KHAS based on the data they had gathered in Istanbul. The GSAPP students plan to proceed with their project upon their return to Columbia University and submit a final report at the end of the semester.
