A PhD student and a Master’s student will be supported with scholarships to work on the TÜBİTAK 1001 project entitled “Qualitative analysis of the potential of contemporary art for increasing public and spatial access to urban cultural heritage sites,” led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ayşe Erek. The PhD student will work on the project for 36 months, while the Master’s student will work on the project for 7 months.
About the Project
The project investigates alternative methods and approaches centered on contemporary art in the context of opening urban architectural heritage sites to the public, tangible and intangible heritage, the adaptive reuse of post-industrial sites, and engagement with cultural heritage. Through creative practices and exhibition-making, the project problematizes issues such as pluralism and participation within public cultural policy.
PhD Scholarship Position
The PhD scholar will be expected to:
- Participate in archival research, interviews, and focus groups;
- Assist with the transcription of in-depth interviews and focus group recordings;
- Contribute to the analysis of in-depth interview and focus group data;
- Assist in interpreting the findings of the two data analyses.
Qualifications
Applicants must:
- Be an active PhD student at a university in Türkiye;
- Have completed a Master’s thesis related to one of the following areas: urban studies, cultural heritage, or contemporary art;
- Have previously participated in a research project;
- Have experience in archival research and fieldwork;
- Be proficient in MS Office and basic computer software;
- Have a sufficient level of English to write academic articles;
- Reside in Istanbul.
A full-time PhD student working on the project will receive a monthly TÜBİTAK scholarship of 32,500 TL. If the student is enrolled at Kadir Has University (KHAS), an additional 15,000 TL contribution will be provided by Kadir Has University, bringing the total monthly scholarship to 47,500 TL.
A working PhD student who is employed full-time elsewhere will receive a monthly TÜBİTAK scholarship of 8,500 TL.
*Candidates holding a Master’s degree who fulfill the required application conditions may also be considered for admission to the PhD Program in Design, Technology and Society at Kadir Has University with a full scholarship, provided that they continue their studies in this program.
Master’s Scholarship Position
The full-time Master’s scholar will be expected to:
- Participate in archival research, interviews, and focus groups;
- Assist with the transcription of in-depth interviews and focus group recordings.
Qualifications
Applicants must:
- Be an active Master’s student at a university in Türkiye;
- Have an interest in urban public space, cultural heritage, and contemporary art;
- Be proficient in MS Office and basic computer software;
- Have a sufficient level of English to write academic articles;
- Reside in Istanbul.
*Candidates holding a Bachelor’s degree who fulfill the required application conditions may also be considered for admission to the Master’s Program in Design at Kadir Has University with a full scholarship, provided that they continue their studies in this program.
A full-time Master’s student working on the project will receive a monthly TÜBİTAK scholarship of 22,500 TL. If the student is enrolled at Kadir Has University (KHAS), an additional 10,000 TL contribution will be provided by Kadir Has University, bringing the total monthly scholarship to 32,500 TL.
