Burak Başaranlar is an Assistant Professor in the Core Program at Kadir Has University. He received his Ph.D. in History from Binghamton University (State University of New York) in December 2020. Alongside his main areas of expertise, modern Turkish and modern Middle Eastern history, he has also worked in the fields of historical sociology and Soviet history. He has previously taught at Binghamton University and at Middle East Technical University.
He is the principal investigator of the project "Debtors of the Republic: The Impact of the 1929 Great Depression on Small Landholders and Social Unrest (1929–1939)," supported under the TÜBİTAK 3501 Career Development Program. Within the scope of this project, he continues his research on agricultural indebtedness and state-building processes in Turkey. Awarded the Science Academy's Young Scientists Award (BAGEP) in 2025, Başaranlar has also received the Excellence in Research Award from Binghamton University and a Fulbright scholarship in 2020. From 2016 to 2018, he served as assistant editor of the Journal of the Ottoman and Turkish Studies Association.
He served as academic consultant for the exhibition "Overcoming the Past, Illuminating the Future: The Reconstruction of Higher Education in Republican Turkey, 1923–50," organized by the Suna Kıraç Library and ANAMED.
