Psychological Counseling and Guidance Center
At the Kadir Has University Psychological Counseling and Guidance Center, we provide preventive mental health services aimed at addressing the psychological and emotional challenges students may encounter during their academic life at an early stage. Our counseling services support students in understanding their cognitive, emotional, and behavioral difficulties and in developing more functional coping strategies, ways of thinking, and perspectives. All services are delivered on a voluntary basis, in accordance with confidentiality, ethical responsibilities, and professional standards, and are carried out in a safe and supportive environment.
1 Our Principles
Competence
All counselors and psychologists provide services within the scope of their education and professional qualifications. When faced with situations beyond their area of competence, they are responsible for improving their skills through scientific training and for referring students to appropriate professionals (e.g., psychiatrists, medical doctors) to ensure the most accurate support.
Integrity
Our counselors and psychologists adhere to the principles of honesty, accuracy, and transparency throughout the counseling process. They provide truthful information regarding their professional qualifications and remain aware of their professional boundaries.
Respect
Counselors and psychologists are sensitive to individual rights and freedoms and are responsible for maintaining an impartial stance while supporting clients in recognizing their own interests, abilities, and values.
Sensitivity to Individual and Cultural Diversity
Our counselors and psychologists recognize the diverse needs and concerns of all members of society and strive to adapt their methods and techniques accordingly. We provide an environment in which individual and cultural differences—such as age, gender, religion, language, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, group or cultural affiliation, sexual orientation, and marital status—do not negatively affect the services offered.
Confidentiality
All sessions conducted with our counselors and psychologists are carried out in accordance with ethical and professional principles. Trust and confidentiality are fully upheld. Information shared during sessions will not be disclosed to third parties without the student’s consent. Exceptions apply only when there is a risk to the student’s life or the life of others. Even in such cases, the student will be informed before any information is shared. In certain situations, students also share responsibility for maintaining confidentiality (e.g., disclosures made during group counseling sessions).
