Architecture is Art III Exhibition

01

Architecture is Art III is the third exhibition organized under this title at CerModern, presenting the outcomes of a graduate research design studio at METU’s Faculty of Architecture. The studio explores the representational conventions and analytical tools through which architects conceptualize and communicate design ideas. Plan, section, elevation, and axonometric drawings are treated as descriptive systems that articulate architecture as a three-dimensional construct, while perspective is used to convey spatial experience beyond the abstract logic of orthographic projection. This year, black-and-white photography serves as the primary medium of abstraction, evoking a sense of nostalgia and referencing the conventional ways modern architecture has been documented. In this exhibition, however, these images are transformed into a series of vibrant, three-dimensional spatial environments, generating a dynamic interplay between the historical perception of modernist forms and their colorful reinterpretation. This dual representational framework allows for a critical reading of the METU campus as both an artifact of modern architecture and a reflection of modernist ideology, while also commemorating the 70th anniversary of the School’s founding.

Department of Architecture’s research assistant Nejat Emre Özen’s selected works from his master’s thesis titled “Elementary Architectural Formations and the METU Campus,”- completed in 2021 within the METU M.Arch program under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Ayşen Savaş – are also presented in the exhibition Architecture is Art III, alongside works by Prof. Dr. Ayşen Savaş and the Arch524 team.

The exhibition is on view at CerModern, Ankara, from January 21 to 31, 2026.  We congratulate the entire exhibition team, R.A. Nejat Emre Özen and METU Faculty of Architecture’s 70th founding anniversary!
