TUBITAK 2559 Project PhD Scholarship Announcement
Supported under the TUBITAK 2559-TUBITAK MOESTD (Ministry of EducatioAn, Science and Technological Development of Serbia) Bilateral Cooperation Call, “TV Series: A Comparative Perspective: From Geopolitics to Geocriticism Serbia and Turkey” funded under the Bilateral Cooperation Call. The PhD student is expected to join the project on September 1, 2022 and work for 11 months.
The project examines the geopolitics of the Balkan region and the geopolitical relations between Serbia and Turkey. Serbia and Turkey, having common geographies, histories and cultures in the Balkans, will be analyzed on the basis of emotions in TV series and references to real and imagined places read through them. The focus is on the comparative analysis of four pairs of TV series originating from Turkey and Serbia. The national, cultural imaginary and its reception constructed, modified and transmitted through TV series in both countries; national and transnational identities, representation of the past and everyday life; how geopolitics operates in TV series will be examined through the emerging concept of geocriticism.
The scholarship recipient will be selected from among candidates preferably in the Communication Sciences program, with a background in social sciences and an interdisciplinary approach to work.
As the fellow will be actively involved in the project’s focus group work, data analysis and in-depth sector interviews, preference will be given to candidates with knowledge or experience in these methods.
The PhD student who will work on the project;
- Has interest and knowledge about television series and is willing to do his/her thesis in this field,
- Have sufficient English proficiency to write academic articles in line with the expectations of the project in this field,
- Experienced in archiving the project process, budget tracking and preparing project reports,
- Proficient in MS Office, basic computer and preferably data analysis software,
- Organizational communication skills to coordinate the work process of two international research teams,
- Must reside in Istanbul to continue full-time work.
The PhD student who will take part in the project will receive a scholarship of 5.500 TL as TÜBİTAK scholarship fee and 3.000 TL as Kadir Has contribution fee in case he/she is a KHAS student, total 8.500 TL/month. These fees are valid for students who are not working in any institution and vary for working students.
