Kadir Has University fosters lifelong learning and quality education through extensive academic programming, research, and community engagement. In 2023–2024, the Library expanded its acquisitions and remote-access services, processed interlibrary loans, and digitized course materials to ensure broad accessibility. Students participated in social responsibility projects with local schools, museums, and NGOs, linking theoretical learning with community impact. Graduate and undergraduate courses addressed sustainability, energy transition, and gender equality, while international collaborations such as “Boundary Crossing” and “ACT” projects enriched interdisciplinary learning and artistic research.

The session discussed “fragile masculinity,” defined as the fear of losing social status obtained through traditional masculine norms, with examples from plays in the repertoire.[4]

  • 17 May 2024: Aylin Kosova Bilgin, former VP of Marketing at Coca-Cola and former faculty member, joined the “Workshop Talks” event to deliver a talk on “Marketing and Artificial Intelligence.”
  • 17 April 2023: Advertising Department students won first and third prizes in the A Awards Junior competition organized by ARVAK (Outdoor Advertisers Foundation).
  • 2 May 2023: In the ADventure competition organized by Boğaziçi University, department students won first prize, and two other teams shared third place.
  • 29 November 2023: Students won third prize in the Genç Kristal competition organized by the Advertising Foundation.

4.2. Projects

  • Access to Learning Resources (2023): To support the University’s teaching, learning, and research goals, the 2022–2023 acquisition and subscription budget was increased by 43% to TRY 5,954,403, corresponding to TRY 1,224.00 per student.
  • Provision of Publications & Collection Development (2023): Requests for 1,934 items (books, journals, multimedia, etc.) from 379 staff members were fulfilled; 208 unique students benefited from this service.
  • Lending Services (2023): 38,925 volumes were loaned, 67% to students. During the post-earthquake remote-learning period, the “Ship-a-Book to Your Address” service continued.
  • Interlibrary Loan & Document Supply (2023): 1,220 of 1,348 requested items (95% fulfillment) were supplied from domestic and foreign libraries for 256 staff members.
  • Course Reserve Materials (2023): Syllabi for 19% of courses were processed; 91% of required resources were covered by the Library’s collection. Printed items were digitized and made available via KHAS-Learn.
  • Research & Academic Support (2023): 5,889 research, reference, and information requests were answered; 2,783 of them from students.
  • Physical Study Spaces (2023): 101 hours/week of librarian support were provided; the Silent Hall remained open 24/7, and all halls were open 24 hours during exam periods.
  • Off-Campus Access (2023): 5,042 users made 90,770 visits and 219,914 sessions to e-resources off campus, downloading/viewing 633,354 full-text items.
  • Investment in Learning Resources (2024): The acquisition and subscription budget rose by 42.75% to TRY 8,500,000, equal to TRY 1,487.31 per student.
  • Provision of Publications & Collection Development (2024): 1,203 item requests from 277 staff members were met; 132 unique students benefited.
  • Lending Services (2024): 51,470 volumes were loaned, 78% to students. The “You Choose, We Ship” courier loan service for postgraduate students in the thesis stage continued.
  • Interlibrary Loan & Document Supply (2024): 97% of 916 requests from 219 staff members were fulfilled.
  • Course Reserve Materials (2024): Syllabi for 11% of courses were processed; 85% of the required resources were covered by the Library’s collection. Where copyright allowed, resources were digitized and provided via KHAS-Learn.
  • Research & Academic Support (2024): 726 research, reference, and information requests were answered; 342 from students.
  • Physical Study Spaces (2024): 87.5 hours/week of librarian support were provided; the Silent Hall remained open 24/7, and all halls were open 24 hours during final exams.
  • Off-Campus Access (2024): 4,961 users made 95,887 visits and 205,712 sessions to e-resources off campus, downloading/viewing 596,059 full-text items.
  • Artistic Research Project | “ACT – Artistic Freedom and Children’s and Youth’s Perspective in the Arts in Turkey” | Project Leader: Lecturer Özlem Özhabes | Researchers: Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zeynep Günsür Yüceil, Asst. Prof. Dr. Özlem Hemiş | Project Period: 1 June 2022 – 31 May 2024 | Funded by the Swedish government and initiated by the KHAS Theatre Department, ACT is a research and education project focused on children’s and youth theatre. Conducted in collaboration with Unga Klara – Sweden’s National Children and Youth Theatre, Mordem Art in Diyarbakır, and K2 Contemporary Art Association in İzmir, the two-year program targets the training of future arts practitioners in this field.[10]
  • Artistic Education Research Project | Boundary Crossing – Artistic Research in Context | 20 March 2023 – 12 May 2023 | Partners: HKU University of the Arts Utrecht, Glej Theatre Ljubljana, KHAS Theatre Department Istanbul | This pilot project promotes interdisciplinary artistic production, encouraging young artists to diversify their creative processes and tools, collaborate across disciplines, and open new areas of thought. It emphasizes collective ways of working and exploration.
  • Artistic Education Research Project | Boundary Crossing – Artistic Research in Context | 23 September 2024 – 18 October 2024 | Partners: Glej Theatre Ljubljana, HKU University of the Arts Utrecht, Kadir Has University Theatre Department | This continuation of the 2021 pilot project functions as an experimental educational program connecting young theatre makers from the participating countries. “Boundary crossing” encompasses crossing national borders, theatre practices, and individual creative processes. The methodology aims to develop theatre-making practices through negotiating multiple contexts, enabling participants to evaluate and produce work from diverse perspectives, cultures, and roles.

  • KHAS110 in partnership with İstanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Neighborhood Houses: student groups organized workshops for children and women in Cibali, Örnektepe, and Sulukule on topics such as zero-waste awareness, movement, drama, and homework support.
  • KHAS110 with the Social Support & Solidarity Club: students developed social-benefit projects, such as a card game to raise autism awareness, which was presented at an on-campus stand.

It examines the circulation of gendered and sexualized discourses through media, popular culture, contemporary art, sound/music, and performance from an intersectional perspective, integrating post-structuralist, feminist, queer, multicultural, and postcolonial approaches.
