New Project Support from TUBITAK 2209-A

Özden Yüksek, a 4th year student in the Department of Psychology, has been awarded a grant from the TUBITAK 2209-A University Students Research Projects Support Program for her project titled “Improving Word Recall in Preschool Children with Stroking Movements”. This project, which will last for a total of 12 months, has three main objectives: The first of these main objectives is to investigate the effects of using rhythm movements accompanying words on the target word recall performance of preschool children aged 3-5 years. The second main aim is to investigate whether the use of rhythm movements is effective in recalling not only the target word but also the other words in the list. In other words, the aim was not to observe the local recall of the target word in the list, but to observe the global recall of the words in the list that were not accompanied by the beat movement. Third, previous studies have investigated the relationship between beat movements and word recall in children aged 5 years and older. Only one study has examined children younger than this age group (3-4). Therefore, we aimed to replicate the findings from this single study with younger children and obtain similar findings.

We congratulate our student Özden and her project advisor, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Aslı AKTAN ERCİYES, a faculty member of the Department of Psychology, and wish them success in their research.
