KHAS Receives Two Project Grants from Horizon Europe

Reviving, Boosting, Optimising and Transforming European Film Competitiveness – REBOOT”

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Melis Behlil and Lecturer Dr. Elif Akçalı from our Department of Radio, Television and Cinema have been awarded the Horizon Europe Program Cluster 2: Culture, Creative and Inclusive Societies 2022 call “HORIZON-CL2-2022-HERITAGE-01-06: Increase the Potential of the International Competitiveness of the European Filmmaking Industry” on behalf of our university, the project proposal titled “Reviving, Boosting, Optimizing and Transforming European Film Competitiveness – REBOOT” was entitled to be supported. The twelve-partner consortium will be coordinated by the Austrian-based Universitat Wien.

With the main objective of providing a complete set of information on the European film industry and thus maximizing its existing strengths, the REBOOT project has 5 specific sub-objectives:

  1. a) increase support for the participation of young people in European films;
  2. b) Strengthening the EU’s position in the global audiovisual economy, especially in light of the rise of Video on Demand (VOD);
  3. c) Promoting cultural diversity in the EU film industry;
  4. d) address the need for a different understanding of competitiveness and related indicators in this context;
  5. e) recognize and promote the importance of film and the wider cultural and creative sector as a geopolitical asset for the EU.

BUDGET IT – Building Gender Equality through Gender Budgeting for Institutional Transformation”

The project proposal titled “BUDGET IT – Building Gender Equality through Gender Budgeting for Institutional Transformation” submitted by Prof. Dr. Mary Louise Şimşek from our Department of Political Science and Public Administration as coordinator to the Horizon Europe Framework Program European Research Area (HORIZON-WIDERA-2022-ERA-01) call was entitled to be supported.

BUDGET-IT aims to strengthen inclusive gender+ equality using “gender+ budgeting”. Our university will coordinate a consortium of nine institutions in the three-year project that aims to transform institutions in this way.

With the support of leading universities in Italy and Spain, the project aims to increase inclusiveness and research excellence in universities in Bosnia, Serbia and Turkey, in the context of the European Union’s enlargement policies.

By the end of the project, partner organizations will have produced an integrated and inclusive gender+ equality plan and gender+ budget (GEP-GB). The 36-month project has a total budget of EUR 999,235. Kadir Has University’s budget is 260.518 EUR.

KHAS Gender and Women’s Studies UAM Project Manager Dr. Selma Değirmenci, Core Program Faculty Members Dr. Nurseli Yeşim Sünbüloğlu and Dr. Doğu Durgun, and Faculty of Law Faculty Member Assoc. Prof. Dr. Olgun Akbulut will take part in the project.
