The workshop of the project titled Social History of Electrical Household Technologies in Turkey (1930-2020): Modernization in Women’s Everyday Lives, was held on Saturday, June 17, 2023 at Kadir Has University Galata Hall.
Participants from Özyeğin University Gender Equality Center, Sabancı University, Kadın İşçi, Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University, Dissensus Research, İhsan Doğramacı Bilkent University, Medeniyet University and Arçelik came together at the workshop of the project, which aims to write the social history of home technologies through the eyes of women, who are associated with these technologies and considered as their main users.
In the first session of the workshop, Public Relations and Publicity department faculty member and project coordinator Assoc. Prof. Dr. Defne Karaosmanoğlu explained the theoretical and methodological framework of the project. Postdoctoral research fellow Dr. Leyla Bektaş Ata discussed the representation of domestic work and masculinities through television commercials. Project researcher Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bahar Emgin shared the findings on the changing representations of the refrigerator.
In the second session of the workshop, Esra Atalay Tuna, PhD scholar of the project, analyzed the outputs of the survey and presented them to the participants. Ramazan Çakmak, the project’s master’s fellow, shared the findings of the print media archive research. PhD scholar Büşra Eser discussed the oral interviews. PhD scholar Öykü Deniz Aytemiz shared the outputs of women’s autobiographies with the participants.
