  • TÜBİTAK 1001 Project No. 221K006 – “The Role of Risk-Factor Knowledge in Individual Investors’ Preference for Unregulated Financial Products: Developing a Map of Unregulated Financial Products for Turkey, Assessing Regulatory Impacts, and Proposing Legal Frameworks” | Project Leader: Assoc. Prof. Dr. Esra Hamamcıoğlu | Researchers: Asst. Prof. Dr. Alara Efsun Yazıcıoğlu, Asst. Prof. Dr. Argun Karamanlıoğlu, Asst. Prof. Dr. Aslı Togan Eğrican, Dr. Davut Gürses, Asst. Prof. Dr. Murat Tiniç[13]
  • Description: In Turkey, individual investments in unregulated or informal markets and resulting financial losses remain a persistent issue. A key reason for risky, irrational investment behavior is lack of knowledge about the risks of financial products, compounded by low financial and legal literacy, which negatively affect risk perception. Understanding why unregulated investments remain widespread despite existing laws requires an interdisciplinary analysis of individuals’ risk perception, combining law, finance, and educational design.
  • Occupational Health and Safety (ISG) Projects:
  • The Technopark aims to contribute to the regional and national economy through R&D projects carried out under the University-Public-Industry-Civil Society quadruple-helix model.
  • FabriKHAS acts with the vision of becoming a global creativity hub in the screen industries, aiming to lead innovative projects by connecting local talent to international platforms.
  • TÜBİTAK 1001 Project – Prof. Dr. Baysal – Digital Personality and Posthumous Data Protection in the Information Society
  • This project examines how posthumous digital identity is handled under Turkish law, individuals’ attitudes and risk perceptions, and evaluates the adequacy of the current legal framework. Conducted over 36 months with a multidisciplinary team in law, informatics, psychology, and design, the project involves comparative research with French, German, and Anglo-American legal systems. It uses qualitative and quantitative methods to analyze psychological and legal issues caused by information asymmetry, ultimately aiming to develop legal policies and propose regulations for protecting personal data after death.
  • TÜBİTAK 3005 Project – Asst. Prof. Dr. Gizem Arslan – Comparison of Turkey’s Urban Transformation Legislation for Climate Change Mitigation with EU Law and the French Example, and Identification of Necessary Legal Amendments
  • The project focuses on the role and impact of urban transformation and renewal practices in combating climate change. It aims to provide a legal and scientific foundation for Turkey’s climate policy by conducting a comparative legal analysis of European Union regulations that strengthen legal frameworks for climate action.
  • TÜBİTAK 1001 Project – Assoc. Prof. Dr. Esra Hamamcıoğlu – The Role of Risk-Factor Knowledge in Individual Investors’ Preference for Unregulated Financial Products: Developing a Map of Unregulated Financial Products for Turkey, Assessing Regulatory Impacts, and Proposing Legal Frameworks
  • This project investigates the underlying reasons for individuals’ high-risk investment behavior in unregulated and informal markets in Turkey, emphasizing the impact of knowledge gaps and low risk perception. Combining law, finance, and educational design, the project uses surveys, training programs, and controlled experiments to analyze how risk perception influences investment decisions. It also evaluates the adequacy of current regulations and develops user-friendly guides and policy recommendations.

  • LAW 472 – Neuroscience and Law (Elective)

Course Description: Modern legal systems often assume that humans are conscious beings with free will, which is a foundational concept for legal personality and responsibility. Legal accountability requires that actions and transactions are carried out knowingly and voluntarily. However, since the 1980s, developments in neuroscience have increasingly challenged this assumption. This course examines whether advances in neuroscience might require future legal systems to rethink the basis of legal responsibility. [20]
