The first year of the \u201cFacebook Digital Journalism Trainings\u201d launched in cooperation with Kadir Has University and Habitat Association (Habitat) has been completed. With the trainings given by graduates of Kadir Has University Faculty of Communication, Department of New Media, more than 1000 journalists and journalism students, more than half of whom are women, were reached in Turkey in one year.<\/p>\n\n
The \u201cFacebook Digital Journalism Trainings\u201d program, the first leg of which started last year with the trainings of a group of Kadir Has University New Media Department undergraduate and graduate graduates, and the second leg of which provided trainings on the effective use of Facebook and Instagram in journalism, attracted great interest.<\/p>\n\n
The trainings were free and open to all journalists and journalism students and included sessions focusing on audience building on Facebook and Instagram and storytelling through video using Facebook and Instagram features such as Facebook Live, Facebook Watch, Instagram Stories, IGTV and Reels. In addition, participants were provided with tools and information on misinformation, fact-checking and legal aspects of copyright and hate speech.<\/p>\n\n

Kadir Has University New Media Lab. Coordinator G\u00fclin K\u00fcpelio\u011flu evaluated the program as follows: \u201cWith the Facebook Digital Journalism Training, we have been coming together with communication faculty and journalism students, local-national media professionals and content producers for a year. In the digital media age we live in, almost everyone uses social media and produces content on different platforms. Although we think that most people know how to use social media channels and follow the developments, we witness that social media usage awareness and knowledge can sometimes be insufficient.
For this reason, as Kadir Has University New Media Department, I believe that we had a good year in order to close the existing gaps with these trainings organized in cooperation with Habitat Association and Facebook. The fact that our participants from different educational and professional groups shared their experiences and provided feedback ensured that our training was mutually interactive. In the trainings that we had to give online for a while due to Covid-19, it was very valuable to meet students and professionals from many different provinces and share mutual experiences.\u201d
