We are looking for master’s, doctoral and postdoctoral fellows for the T\u00dcB\u0130TAK ARDEB 1001 project titled \u201cFilm Studies in Turkey and the New Spirit of Capitalism\u201d led by Prof. B\u00fclent D\u0130KEN from the Faculty of Communication, Department of Radio, Television and Cinema.<\/p>\n\n

Proje Hakk\u0131nda<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n

Philosophy, the root of all social sciences, defines itself not only as the production of knowledge (sophia) but as the love of knowledge (philo-sophia). The Socratic activity – thinking – finds its definition (not in an instrumental-economic activity) in futility. This wisdom is often ignored, censored, rejected in contemporary culture. In this context, the project starts from the assumption that the ideal of philosophy (academic life) is not knowledge or wisdom (sophia), but the love of knowledge, the desire for knowledge (philo-sophia).<\/p>\n\n

The main problematic of the project is how and in which ways the love of knowledge and the love of cinema are justified (legitimized) or criticized in the field of Film Studies at state and foundation universities in Turkey. The project conceptualizes the field of Film Studies as a field in the Bourdieuian sense on a global scale, and in order to examine how the relationship between knowledge, love of knowledge (philo-sophia) and love of cinema \/ cinephilia is transformed within the framework of the \u201cnew spirit of capitalism\u201d, the project asks academics who actively produce knowledge in universities to produce their academic works (articles, project), their non-academic productions (audio-visual and visual materials), their relations with non-academic networks, their course curricula and syllabi, on the basis of the following questions, through survey and in-depth interview methods. These qualitative data will be interpreted through discourse analysis.<\/p>\n\n

  1. Orientation of the Research Team, Introduction of the Methods and Determination of the Conceptual Map for the Survey (IP1)<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. Data Collection and Analysis (IP2): Determination and revision of the survey questions, implementation of the survey. Analyzing the qualitative survey data collected during the research process through discourse analysis method. Determining the correlation between the qualitative data collected during the research process<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. Data Collection and Analysis (IP3): Conducting in-depth interviews with academics working in the field of Film Studies and analyzing the qualitative data obtained through discourse analysis method<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  4. Data Collection and Analysis (IP4): In-depth interviews with non-academic communities (cinephiles, associations and civil society organizations working in the field of cinema) identified through snowball sampling method and analysis<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  5. Data Collection and Analysis (IP5): Comparative Analysis of Data, Interpretation of Relation to Literature and Development of Conceptual Framework<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  6. Presenting and approving the evaluations to be made by the project team on the qualitative findings and analysis at the workshop attended by independent experts on the subject, adding the proposed revisions to the report and preparing a website on the outputs<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n

    The MA student in Communication Sciences is expected to organize interviews with full-time and part-time academics working in the field of Film Studies, associations and non-governmental organizations working in the field of cinema and communities such as cinephiles, to ensure communication between the research team and the people to be surveyed and interviewed, to help systematize the collected data, to prepare content for the website where information about the project will be shared during the research and to take part in the website design.<\/p>\n\n

    • It is preferred to have basic knowledge and skills related to website design.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Candidates who are not enrolled in a Master’s program of any university must be enrolled in a program on the date the project is expected to start (August 2023). Candidates applying to Kadir Has University Master’s Programs for the Fall Semester 2023-2024 will be given priority.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n

      A total of 10.575 TL\/month scholarship will be given to the master’s scholar who will take part in the project, including TUBITAK scholarship fee of 7.275 TL and Kadir Has contribution fee of 3.300 TL in case he\/she is a KHAS student. SSI entry will be made by KHAS University.<\/p>\n\n

      Within the scope of the proposed project, PhD fellows in the field of Communication Sciences will take part in the preparation of the questions of the survey to be applied to full-time and part-time academics working in the field of Film Studies, the implementation of the survey, the collection, evaluation and interpretation of the survey results, in-depth interviews with the people identified from the communities such as academics working in the field of cinema, associations and non-governmental organizations and cinephiles, documenting and reporting the results, interpreting the content through discourse analysis method and turning it into an academic study.<\/p>\n\n
