The book titled One Hundred Years of Turkish Foreign Policy (1923-2023) Historical and Theoretical Reflections, co-edited by our International Relations department chair Prof. Dr. Sinem Akg\u00fcl A\u00e7\u0131kme\u015fe and Prof. Dr. Binnur \u00d6zke\u00e7eci-Taner from Hamline University, has been published under the Palgrave Macmillan label.<\/p>\n
Bringing together an all-female academic group, the book examines the continuities and changes in Turkey\u2019s foreign policy since the foundation of the Republic in 1923 in a historically grounded and theoretically rich manner.<\/p>\n
Using different International Relations theories to clarify the interaction between domestic politics and foreign policy-making, the book maps the evolution of Turkey\u2019s foreign policy vis-\u00e0-vis various regions and global actors, and examines significant developments in Turkey\u2019s relations with these actors. While some chapters emphasize continuities in Turkey\u2019s foreign relations, others address significant changes and discontinuities in specific areas.<\/p>\n
Recognizing that Turkey\u2019s state interests may not always align with those of the ruling elite, the book shows that Turkey\u2019s centennial represents a founding moment for Turkey\u2019s future and calls for a pragmatic strategy that focuses on progressive ideals rather than a purely ideological grand strategy.<\/p>\n
