Yagci<\/strong> The book titled Between the Market, Ballot Box and the President: Economic Transformation and Stagnation in Turkey<\/em><\/strong>, which she co-edited, was published by \u0130leti\u015fim Publishing House.<\/p>\n\n

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Emrah Karao\u011fuz from our International Relations department and Melike Bozkurt, who completed her master’s degree in the same department, also contributed to the book with a chapter on the defense industry. <\/p>\n\n

“The AKP government inherited and implemented the IMF-supported economic program designed during the previous government, but from its early period on, it made efforts to adapt this legacy to itself and subsequently showed significant ruptures. After the 2009 global crisis, a model based on loose monetary policy and credit expansion was followed without the anchors of international institutions, and the AKP’s longest economic growth period (2010-2017) actually occurred under this model.” <\/em><\/p>\n\n

Between the Market, the Ballot Box and the President, examines the dialectic of transformation and stagnation in the Turkish economy during the Justice and Development Party government. This study analyzes the general economic-political nature of the regime, as well as the specific aspects of the process in question\u2026 <\/em><\/p>\n\n

Different aspects and problems of the economy; the tender regime and favoritism; the development of the defense industry and its function as a \u201csuccess story\u201d; the performance of the welfare state, social assistance and poverty; the transformation of education and the problem of \u201cquality\u201d; the dilemma between the developments in women\u2019s education and employment and the decline in gender equality, and of course the effects of authoritarian arbitrariness.<\/em><\/p>\n\n

A critical, careful look at the structural analysis of the Turkish economy during the AKP rule, going beyond broad generalizations and rote learning.<\/em><\/p>\n\n
