Prof. Fabio Stroppa<\/strong>&nbsp;from the Computer Engineering Department of Kadir Has University, in collaboration with&nbsp;<strong>Asst. Prof. Eray A. Baran<\/strong>&nbsp;from the Mechatronics Engineering Department of Bilgi University is looking for graduate students to work for paid research scholars to work for 24 months within his TUBITAK 2232 research project&nbsp;<strong>\u201cComputational Design, Manufacturing, and Applications of Soft Growing Robot Manipulators\u201d<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The goal of this project is to implement a tool allowing non-engineer users to build and design their own soft devices by developing tools for designing and controlling soft manipulators. The project has two main objectives: (1) the implementation of methods to identify the best design of soft-growing robots to solve a pre-defined task, by means of artificial intelligence techniques; and (2) the manufacture of real soft-growing robots based on the design retrieved by the optimization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Applicants must also apply to Kadir Has Ph.D. program under Computer Engineering or Electrical and Electronic Engineering (applications will be opened on April 10th).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em><strong>Applicants must have:<\/strong><\/em><br>\u2022 earned, or be about to earn, an M.Sc. degree or equivalent in mechanical engineering, mechatronics engineering, electronics engineering, or another relevant discipline;<br>\u2022 an excellent academic record;<br>\u2022 a strong background in robotics, real-time coding, system modeling and simulation;<br>\u2022 excellent mathematical and coding skills (specifically in C\/C++, MATLAB);<br>\u2022 excellent written and oral communication skills in English;<br>\u2022 enthusiasm for leading-edge research, a team spirit, and independent problem-solving skills;<br>\u2022 expertise in hands-on system development or handcrafting is a plus for the applicant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em><strong>Tasks will include:<\/strong><\/em><br>\u2022 in-depth study of the soft robotics state-of-the-art,<br>\u2022 design and implementation of soft robotics devices,<br>\u2022 manufacturing of working prototypes,<br>\u2022 design of control systems,<br>\u2022 design and conduction of experiments,<br>\u2022 interpreting statistical data and creating tables and graphics,<br>\u2022 leading a group of undergraduate students,<br>\u2022 participating in periodic meetings (conducted in English),<br>\u2022 writing state-of-the-art research articles for peer-reviewed conferences and journals,<br>\u2022 participating in the qualitative analysis process and writing reports and deliverables.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The research will be conducted at EVO Lab (Kadir Has University) and Robotics and Intelligent Motion Control Laboratory (Bilgi University), in Istanbul.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>This is an in-person position.
