Why this happens, how it is connected to neurodegenration have remained unclear. In my group we combined cutting-edge genetic and imaging tools to investigate what goes wrong in aging white matter. We discovered that immune system, microglia (the brain’s immune cells) and T cells, change their identity and behavior with age. To explore this further, we developed a new method called Spatial Transcriptomics-correlated Electron Microscopy (STcEM), which allows us to link a cell’s genetic activity with its detailed structure under the microscope. Our findings reveal that CD8+ T cells, trigger responses in microglia and oligodendrocytes that may accelerate white matter decline. These immune-driven changes could be central to brain aging and also contribute to the development of neurodegenerative diseases.

Bio of Speaker:

Prof. Dr. Özgün Gökçe is an experimental and computational neuroscientist committed to advancing strategies that support brain health during aging and prevent neurodegeneration. His research integrates single-cell and spatial transcriptomics to uncover cellular and molecular mechanisms of the nervous system in health and disease. Throughout his career, he has leveraged emerging technologies to revisit fundamental questions in neuroscience from new perspectives.

Photo of Speaker: Please either insert here as a png/jpeg file or attach with attachments.

SEMINARBrain Aging and Injury: Insights from Single-Cell and Spatial Transcriptomics - Kadir Has University
SEMINAR GUEST SPEAKER DETAILS: Date: 03 October 2025 Time (IST and Broad Country Time): 14.30-15.30 PM (IST) Online Platform Guest Speaker Title; Name Lastname;
74,38,68
post-28857","etkinlik","type-etkinlik","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","birimler-fens","birimler-khas-homepage","birimler-mbg
["GET
