Research findings have consistently shown that higher levels of self-regulation predict better social and academic outcomes (e.g., Blair et al., 2005; McClelland et al., 2007; Portilla et al., 2014). According to the Bioecological Model of human development (Bronfenbrenner & Morris, 2006), children develop self-regulation skills through bidirectional interactions between individual/biological characteristics (e.g., temperament) and environmental qualities such as parenting, classroom climate, and teacher emotional support (Grolnick et al. 2019; Koole et al., 2011; Rothbart, 2011). This talk aims to explain existing research regarding children’s temperamental characteristics and the qualities of their relationships with teachers and parents as predictors of children’s self-regulation.

KHAS Psychology Department Colloquium Series - Doç.
