Kadir Has University (KHAS) is dedicated to ensuring transparency, fairness, and equal opportunity in the recruitment of students, academic staff, and administrative personnel. The University actively works to build an inclusive and equitable community by implementing clear, merit-based selection processes.
Through its policies and outreach initiatives, KHAS aims to attract and support talented individuals from diverse backgrounds, including those who may be underrepresented in higher education. Factors such as gender, disability, socio-economic status, or cultural background are never considered obstacles to access or advancement within the institution.
This commitment reflects the University’s broader mission to promote social justice and equality across all areas of academic and administrative life.
Non-Discriminatory Policy
“We are different, yet equal!” – Kadir Has University rejects all forms of direct and indirect discrimination based on language, religion, race, color, age, citizenship status, ethnic origin, disability, gender, sexual orientation, marital status, pregnancy, social status, educational background, and political opinion. Science can only flourish in an environment free from discrimination, and our University is fully aware that maintaining its distinguished position as a higher education institution depends on ensuring a pluralistic, fair, and open-minded environment where everyone is equal in their differences.
At our University, any act of discrimination or any harassment, intimidation, or bullying based on discrimination — particularly those related to the statuses mentioned above and protected by law and universal principles — is considered unacceptable and intolerable. We announce this with respect to all our stakeholders, including our students, prospective students, staff members, third parties providing services to our University, and visitors.
In this regard, we are fully committed to complying with all legal regulations and to making our utmost effort to provide an academic and social environment for all stakeholders that is free from discrimination, based on equality, respectful of differences, and inclusive.
If you believe you have experienced discrimination at our University, we are here to listen! Please share your thoughts, requests, or complaints with the University’s Equality Commission at [email protected]

Our Values
Kadir Has University firmly upholds the principle of non-discrimination as an integral part of its institutional culture and core values. In line with its Educational Philosophy, KHAS aims to nurture individuals who embrace universal values, think independently, respect diverse worldviews, and act with a strong sense of social responsibility. Discrimination of any kind — whether based on gender, disability, ethnicity, belief, or socio-economic background — is fundamentally incompatible with these principles.
Within its Research Culture, KHAS emphasizes academic freedom, ethics, teamwork, creativity, and collaboration across disciplines, ensuring that every researcher and student operates in an environment free from prejudice or bias.
Through its Community Service Values, the University promotes social responsibility, accessibility, and awareness, addressing local and global challenges with a focus on societal benefit and equity.
Finally, KHAS’s Institutional Governance and Financial Sustainability values emphasize participation, inclusiveness, and equal opportunity in all administrative and managerial processes. The University continuously improves its practices to ensure stakeholder satisfaction and equitable access to opportunities, reflecting its unwavering commitment to fairness, transparency, and equality for all members of the KHAS community.
GENDER
Kadir Has University has consistently demonstrated a strong record in the representation of women among its student body, regularly surpassing the national average in Turkey. This sustained performance in female enrollment reflects the university’s broader mission to ensure access to and success in higher education for everyone, regardless of gender. In doing so, KHAS contributes meaningfully to a more inclusive and diverse academic landscape across the country, reaffirming its commitment to advancing women in both education and society at large.
Below are the gender-based student statistics that illustrate this trend.
In the 2017/18 academic year, women accounted for 51% of KHAS students, compared with 45% across all Turkish universities. This higher representation at KHAS continued in subsequent years. By 2018/19, the female student share at KHAS remained steady at 51%, while the national figure was slightly lower at 46%.
The gap continued to grow in 2019/20, with women comprising 53% of the KHAS student population versus 47% nationally. In 2020/21, the percentage of female students at KHAS rose to 55%, compared to 48% across Turkey.
In 2021/22, women represented 56% of KHAS students, while the national average reached 49%. By 2022/23, female representation at KHAS increased further to 58%, whereas the national average remained at 49%.
As of 2024, this momentum persists: 58% of KHAS’s active students are female. This continuity underscores the university’s enduring dedication to gender balance and its supportive environment for women in higher education.
Taken together, these figures show a clear and consistent pattern at Kadir Has University: the proportion of female students has remained notably higher than the national average over time, highlighting KHAS’s ongoing leadership in promoting gender equity and supporting women’s academic success.
Undergraduate Scholars Supported Within a Project in 2024
Kadir Has University is strongly dedicated to advancing gender equality and increasing women’s participation in research and development (R&D). Through externally funded research and R&D initiatives, the university offers vital financial assistance to undergraduate students, including full living stipends for a minimum of six months. Backed by non-university funding sources, these projects give students immersive, hands-on research opportunities that are pivotal to their academic advancement and professional development.
Currently, 47 undergraduate students benefit from this support, with a notable gender distribution: 24 female students (51%) and 23 male students (49%), which demonstrates our proactive approach to creating an inclusive environment that encourages women.
Undergraduate participants in our externally funded research projects represent a broad spectrum of disciplines, reflecting our interdisciplinary philosophy in both education and research. Students engaged in these initiatives are pursuing degrees in Computer Engineering, Psychology, Law, International Trade and Finance, Economics, Mechatronics Engineering, Industrial Engineering Industrial Design, and Visual Communication Design.
In addition, students from the Faculty of Communication—specifically those studying Radio, Television, and Cinema—as well as students in Management Information Systems and Political Science and International Relations, also benefit from these opportunities. The breadth of departments involved, ranging from Architecture to Core Programs showcases the wide array of academic interests that Kadir Has University supports and enables students across fields to participate in substantive research experiences.
By extending support across such varied areas, we ensure that students from STEM, the social sciences, the arts, and design all have opportunities to contribute to innovative projects. This approach reinforces a multidisciplinary culture of problem-solving and academic growth, and it underscores our commitment to graduating well-rounded individuals prepared for future leadership in their respective fields.

KHAS PHD SCHOLARSHIPS: SUPPORTING WOMEN IN UNDERREPRESENTED FIELDS
Kadir Has University (KHAS) offers comprehensive graduate scholarship opportunities that empower both master’s and doctoral students to pursue advanced research and contribute to academic excellence. These scholarships are designed to ease financial barriers while fostering a vibrant research culture and encouraging innovation across disciplines.
All thesis-based master’s and PhD programs at KHAS are fully funded. The University covers 100% of the tuition fees for these students as part of its commitment to supporting education and research. This full scholarship model reflects KHAS’s dedication to providing equal opportunities for talented graduate students and ensuring that financial limitations do not hinder academic progress or innovation.
Aligned with the University’s institutional commitment to gender equality and inclusion, KHAS actively supports women scholars—particularly in fields where they remain underrepresented, such as engineering, technology, and computational sciences.
In 2024, a total of 242 graduate students benefited from these scholarships, of whom 64% were women. This reflects KHAS’s continuing efforts to strengthen gender balance and to ensure that women play an active role in shaping the future of science, design, and social innovation.

Active Scholarship Students at Kadir Has University
At Kadir Has University, Active Scholarship Students are selected to gain professional experience while supporting their education. These students can work up to 40 hours per month, and their working hours are arranged in accordance with their class schedules to ensure academic priorities come first.
Every year, students have the opportunity to work in different administrative units, allowing them to explore diverse professional fields and develop a broad set of skills. The program is open to all students, and each administrative unit announces its own available positions. Students can then apply to the postings that match their interests and qualifications.
Through this initiative, Kadir Has University aims to provide meaningful, hands-on experience that enhances students’ employability and contributes to their personal and professional development.
In 2024, 45 students participated in this initiative, as listed below:
