A postdoctoral position is available for the TUBITAK 1001 funded “Dynamic Soil and Earthquake Parameter Estimation Based on Deep Learning and Machine Learning Using Strong Ground Motion Station Records” project.
The main objective of the project is to predict the Vs30 values of 799 strong motion stations operated by the Turkish Disaster and Emergency Management and 87 strong motion stations operated by Kandilli Observatory, using primarily recorded earthquakes and site information and by developing artificial intelligence-based prediction models. To achieve this, the developed model will predict the P and S wave arrival times at the station, and the earthquake epicenter will be determined using earthquake data recorded at a single station.
The candidate is expected to have carried out research in the fields of seismology and/or geotechnical earthquake engineering/geology. He/She is expected to have experience in processing earthquake data and marking P and S waves arrival times, is knowledgeable in applying the Nakamura method to earthquake recordings and is proficient in MATLAB. Furthermore, the candidate is expected to contribute to preparing new research proposals and assist in publishing project outputs in eminent journals.
The compensation for this position includes the standard TÜBİTAK support (4500 TL/month) plus additional support by KHAS (2000 TL/month) totaling to an amount of 6500 TL/month. The position is funded for 18 months.
