prof dr gokhan hotamışlıgilChair of the Department of Genetics and Complex Diseases at Harvard University, Prof. Gökhan Hotamışlıgil completed his undergraduate studies at the Faculty of Medicine, Ankara University and his PhD at Harvard University where he went on to become associate professor and then professor. Hotamışlıgil's inventions have formed the basis for many drug development programs. Prof. Hotamışlıgil, who received his Professorship at age 41 from Harvard University, has made many seminal contributions in the fields of diabetes, obesity and heart disease. His globally influential work, including over 150 articles, referenced more than 25 000 times, and more than 10 patents, have made him a world renowned scientist. Prof. Hotamışlıgil was presented with the ‘Golden Turk’ and ‘Community Leader’ awards for his work with TASSA (Turkish American Scientists & Scholars Association) and the Boston Turkish Biology Group. He has been recognized by fellowships and awards from Markey, Pew, Sandler, American Diabetes Association, National Institutes of Health and Harvard University. He has also received the Vehbi Koç Award, TÜBİTAK Science Award, the American Diabetes Foundation Exceptional Scientific Achievement Award, the International Obesity Foundation Wertheimer Award and the Columbia University Naomie Berrie Award. Prof. Hotamışlıgil has been a member of the Board of Trustees of Kadir Has University since January 2013.
