A New Book: Emotion Regulation from Theory to Practice

Psikoloji bölümümüzden Dr. Öğr. Üyesi Ayşe Altan Atalay‘ın editörlerinden birisi olduğu Kuramdan Pratiğe Duygu Düzenleme isimli kitap Koç Üniversitesi Yayınları’ndan çıktı.

Emotion regulation is the general name given to the cognitive or behavioral strategies that almost every individual uses to change the different dimensions of the emotions they experience even in an ordinary day. Although emotion regulation is seen as a collection of skills that occupy a large place in the daily lives of individuals, the emergence of widely accepted theoretical approaches in this field coincides with the early 2000s.

Emotion regulation, which starts as an interpersonal process in the early stages of life, continues to affect the daily life of individuals with its social, cognitive and behavioral dimensions as the individual matures. These skills are strategies that we keep at hand and frequently use both in coping with ordinary stressors and when trying to cope with unexpected major stressors such as the COVID-19 pandemic we have recently experienced. For this reason, emotion regulation is discussed in this book in five different sections: theoretical, social, cognitive, developmental and clinical.

The main purpose of this book is to provide the reader with a Turkish resource that includes current theoretical approaches and empirical research on emotion regulation.
