A Scientific Look at Literature: Assist. Prof. Dr. Deniz Gündoğan İbrişim Receives the 2026 BAGEP Award
Assistant Professor Deniz Gündoğan İbrişim, a faculty member in the Core Program at Kadir Has University, has been awarded the 2026 Young Scientist Award Program (BAGEP) by the Science Academy in recognition of her original academic contributions to the field of literature. She received the award at a ceremony hosted by Sabancı University on 18 April 2026.
An expert in comparative literature, Dr. İbrişim conducts pioneering research on cultural memory, trauma, environmental humanities, and postcolonial theory. Her work introduces a novel perspective to cultural memory studies by proposing that memory should be understood not only through human testimony and written archives, but also through the traces left on forests devastated by war, polluted rivers, damaged landscapes, and fragmented habitats.
Drawing on contemporary literary and artistic works, she explores the relationship between environmental destruction and collective memory, expanding the boundaries of cultural memory studies while making significant and original contributions to literary scholarship.
In recognition of these innovative studies, Dr. İbrişim was selected as a recipient of the 2026 BAGEP Award and continues to contribute to her field through internationally recognized research.
As one of Türkiye's most prestigious academic award programs supporting early-career researchers, BAGEP promotes originality and excellence in scientific research. Dr. İbrişim's achievement also reflects the strength and quality of research conducted at Kadir Has University in the social sciences and humanities.
