Women’s Access Schemes

KADIR HAS UNIVERSITY GENDER STATISTICS

Kadir Has University not only commits to gender equality in principle, it also puts that commitment into practice. Our alignment with the UN’s “Gender Equality” goal spans many areas—from teaching and research to projects and awards.

We offer a range of courses designed to build gender-equality awareness and critical thinking. The university also hosts postgraduate programs in Women’s Studies and operates a dedicated application and research center. These courses invite students to question gender roles and recognize structural inequalities.

We strongly support research on gender equality across our faculties and centers, contributing new knowledge to the field. Findings are published in national and international journals, advancing scholarly work on the topic. Beyond campus, the university takes an active role in gender-equality platforms and belongs to both national and international networks, which foster collaboration and knowledge sharing.

KADIR HAS UNIVERSITY GRADUATE / ALUMNI STATISTICS WITH GENDER DIVISIONS

From 2016 to 2024, Kadir Has University has demonstrated a steady and meaningful advancement in gender balance among its graduates. The data clearly shows that female representation has grown not only in proportion but also in absolute numbers, reinforcing the university’s institutional commitment to gender equality in higher education.

In 2016, the distribution of graduates was almost perfectly balanced, with 306 female and 305 male graduates. This early parity laid the groundwork for sustained growth in female representation in the years that followed. By 2017, the number of female graduates had increased to 404 compared to 337 male graduates, beginning a consistent upward trend that continued into 2018, when female graduates numbered 464 against 380 male graduates. This progression marked the start of a positive and lasting shift in favor of women’s participation and achievement in higher education at KHAS.

The turning point came in 2019, when female graduates constituted 52.87% of all graduates, surpassing men for the first time. From that year onward, women have consistently represented more than half of the total graduate population, illustrating that the progress made is structural rather than temporary. Despite occasional fluctuations in total graduate numbers, the proportion of female graduates has remained stable and strong: 56.01% in 2020, 53.75% in 2021, and 58.25% in 2022. The trend reached its highest point in 2023, when women accounted for 58.34% of all graduates (500 female vs. 357 male students).

In 2024, this strong pattern continued, with the highest-ever number of female graduates recorded—539 women compared to 393 men. While the percentage (57.83%) represents a slight decline from the previous year, the total number of women graduating has increased, proving that gender equality at KHAS is not only about proportional representation but also about expanding access and opportunity on a larger scale. This demonstrates that equity and growth can coexist—female participation has risen even as the overall graduate population expanded.

The sustained rise of female graduates over nearly a decade reflects the effectiveness of KHAS’s institutional strategies and policies. Initiatives such as targeted scholarships, mentoring programs, inclusive academic support systems, and gender-sensitive policies have all contributed to these results. The university’s consistent alignment with Sustainable Development Goal 5 (Gender Equality) has provided a strategic framework for empowering women across all fields of study.

Between 2016 and 2024, KHAS produced 3,867 female graduates compared to 3,116 male graduates, making women approximately 55% of all graduates over nine years. Importantly, since 2019, the female majority has stabilized at an average of 56–57%, highlighting that this progress is sustainable and institutionally embedded.

Looking ahead, the key challenge will be to translate academic equity into professional equity—ensuring that women not only graduate in higher numbers but also advance into leadership and research positions. Continued tracking of career outcomes, targeted professional development programs, and alumni networking initiatives will be essential in carrying this success beyond graduation.

In conclusion, the gender statistics from 2016 to 2024 clearly illustrate that Kadir Has University has moved beyond mere policy statements to achieve measurable, sustained, and scalable gender equality outcomes. The record numbers in 2024 confirm that KHAS’s approach—grounded in inclusion, support, and opportunity—has created a lasting model of progress for gender equity in higher education.

KADIR HAS UNIVERSITY STUDENTS STATISTICS WITH GENDER DIVISIONS

Kadir Has University (KHAS) has consistently demonstrated a strong record in the representation of women among its student body, regularly surpassing the national average in Turkey. This sustained performance in female enrollment reflects the university’s broader mission to ensure access to and success in higher education for everyone, regardless of gender. In doing so, KHAS contributes meaningfully to a more inclusive and diverse academic landscape across the country, reaffirming its commitment to advancing women in both education and society at large.

Below are the gender-based student statistics that illustrate this trend.

In the 2017/18 academic year, women accounted for 51% of KHAS students, compared with 45% across all Turkish universities. This higher representation at KHAS continued in subsequent years. By 2018/19, the female student share at KHAS remained steady at 51%, while the national figure was slightly lower at 46%.

The gap continued to grow in 2019/20, with women comprising 53% of the KHAS student population versus 47% nationally. In 2020/21, the percentage of female students at KHAS rose to 55%, compared to 48% across Turkey.

In 2021/22, women represented 56% of KHAS students, while the national average reached 49%. By 2022/23, female representation at KHAS increased further to 58%, whereas the national average remained at 49%.

As of 2024, this momentum persists: 58% of KHAS’s active students are female. This continuity underscores the university’s enduring dedication to gender balance and its supportive environment for women in higher education.

Taken together, these figures show a clear and consistent pattern at Kadir Has University: the proportion of female students has remained notably higher than the national average over time, highlighting KHAS’s ongoing leadership in promoting gender equity and supporting women’s academic success.

Undergraduate Scholars Supported Within a Project in 2024

Kadir Has University is strongly dedicated to advancing gender equality and increasing women’s participation in research and development (R&D). Through externally funded research and R&D initiatives, the university offers vital financial assistance to undergraduate students, including full living stipends for a minimum of six months. Backed by non-university funding sources, these projects give students immersive, hands-on research opportunities that are pivotal to their academic advancement and professional development.

Currently, 47 undergraduate students benefit from this support, with a notable gender distribution: 24 female students (51%) and 23 male students (49%), which demonstrates our proactive approach to creating an inclusive environment that encourages women.

Undergraduate participants in our externally funded research projects represent a broad spectrum of disciplines, reflecting our interdisciplinary philosophy in both education and research. Students engaged in these initiatives are pursuing degrees in Computer Engineering, Psychology, Law, International Trade and Finance, Economics, Mechatronics Engineering, Industrial Engineering Industrial Design, and Visual Communication Design.

In addition, students from the Faculty of Communication—specifically those studying Radio, Television, and Cinema—as well as students in Management Information Systems and Political Science and International Relations, also benefit from these opportunities. The breadth of departments involved, ranging from Architecture to Core Programs showcases the wide array of academic interests that Kadir Has University supports and enables students across fields to participate in substantive research experiences.

By extending support across such varied areas, we ensure that students from STEM, the social sciences, the arts, and design all have opportunities to contribute to innovative projects. This approach reinforces a multidisciplinary culture of problem-solving and academic growth, and it underscores our commitment to graduating well-rounded individuals prepared for future leadership in their respective fields.

Erasmus+ Student Mobility Program

In 2024, Kadir Has University sent 124 students on Erasmus+ and Exchange programs, with women making up 72% (89 students) and men 28% (35 students). This strong female majority highlights the university’s commitment to promoting gender diversity in international academic mobility.

Women outnumbered men in several fields, including traditionally male-dominated areas like Industrial Engineering (90% female), Industrial Design (100% female), and Interior Architecture (71% female). In more creative disciplines, such as Theater and Visual Communication Design, women also led with 100% representation.

Through these scholarships, KHAS not only nurtures academic excellence but also strengthens women’s participation in advanced education and research leadership.

Active Scholarship Students at Kadir Has University

At Kadir Has University, Active Scholarship Students are selected to gain professional experience while supporting their education. These students can work up to 40 hours per month, and their working hours are arranged in accordance with their class schedules to ensure academic priorities come first.

The program is open to all students, and each administrative unit announces its own available positions. Students can then apply to the postings that match their interests and qualifications.

Through this initiative, Kadir Has University aims to provide meaningful, hands-on experience that enhances students’ employability and contributes to their personal and professional development.

Mentoring

KHAS Inspiring Women Mentorship Program

As part of Kadir Has University’s Women’s Access Scheme, the KHAS Inspiring Women Mentorship Program is a special development initiative that connects the university’s outstanding female students with accomplished and inspiring women professionals, including successful female alumni from various fields.

The program aims to strengthen the potential of young women, empowering them to achieve both personal and professional growth through meaningful mentorship and real-world experience. Each participating student—ranked first in her department—embarks on her career journey with valuable guidance enriched by the experience, vision, and inspiration of leading women professionals.

Managed by the Career Office, the program carefully matches mentors and mentees by academic year and professional background to ensure relevance, engagement, and relatability. Before the program begins, both mentors and mentees attend online orientation sessions to prepare for a focused and effective mentoring experience.

Through one-on-one meetings, mentors share their knowledge of industry practices, answer questions about academic and professional life, and offer guidance on balancing student responsibilities with long-term career goals. The process fosters not only knowledge exchange but also the sharing of courage, motivation, and real-life insights that help young women shape their futures.

In 2024, the program brought together 36 female mentors and 40 mentees, providing support and guidance to a total of 84 young women. This initiative stands as a cornerstone of the Women’s Access Scheme, reflecting Kadir Has University’s strong commitment to empowering women with the skills, confidence, and inspiration to lead in their chosen fields.

By empowering women to engage in international opportunities, Kadir Has University ensures that its commitment to diversity extends beyond the classroom, creating a more equitable environment for leadership and innovation. The university’s dedication to providing these opportunities reflects a broader mission to cultivate inclusive global networks where women’s voices are equally heard and valued.
