Post-doctoral position for TREATMi project, Kadir Has University

As Kadir Has University, we are pleased to offer post-doctoral researcher position to join the TREATMi project (Doctors on the move: Transnational Research into Healthcare Migration), a grant jointly funded by Volkswagen Foundation, Novo Nordisk Foundation, and Wellcome. The project is coordinated by Humboldt University (the Berlin Institute for Empirical Integration and Migration Research – BIM), Kadir Has University (Asst. Prof. Sibel Karadağ) and Izmir University of Economics (Prof. Hatice Deniz Yükseker Tekin).

The research project, which is eligible for funding within the scope of Phase 1 will start in August 2024 and will employ full-time post-doc researcher for 7 months. As of March 2025, it will be eligible to move on to the long-term Phase 2.

Job Description

The post-doc researcher will work on her/his research supervised by Asst. Prof. Sibel Karadağ in collaboration with other partner institutions. The project TREATMi addresses the growing trend of medical doctors migrating from countries like Iran and Turkey to destinations such as Germany. The project aims to understand the drivers and consequences of this phenomenon comprehensively.

In the Phase 1, the research position will include

  • Actively contributing to the TREATMi project to accomplish the exploratory research plan for 7 months. In the pilot-phase, the post-doc researcher will take an active role in the preparation of feasibility and scope of the main project.
  • Conducting qualitative interviews among stakeholders in the healthcare system in Istanbul, Izmir and Ankara.
  • Conducting online survey to identify feasible access points for fieldwork during the main project phase.
  • Participating in and facilitating national and international networks in healthcare system to identify potential collaboration/implementation partners, particularly NGOs and NPOs working in the Turkish, Iranian and German healthcare sectors.
  • Gathering insights into issues, knowledge gaps and needs among the healthcare community to be included in the final project.
  • Preparation of the main proposal by March 2025.

Required qualifications for candidates

  • a PhD degree in social sciences
  • a track research record in the fields of migration or related areas
  • a publication record
  • mastery in comparative, qualitative and/or quantitative research methods
  • experience in field research
  • organizational skills and proven experience working in international projects

Salary

The candidate will work full time based in Kadir Has University (Istanbul), for a duration of 7 months starting August 2024 with a gross monthly salary following international project standards. The monthly salary will also include Kadir Has additional life support.
