This year, Kadir Has University is hosting the 5th NATO-Afghan Students Forum that is organized by the NATO Public Diplomacy Division from 18 to 22 October 2010. The Forum is a major youth event bringing together bright university students and young professionals from Afghanistan, NATO and partner countries during one week. It will provide them with a unique opportunity to discuss security challenges in Afghanistan and other international and regional issues. The Forum is also an excellent platform for longstanding friendship, networking and cooperation among the youth. This year, 43 participants have been selected from Afghanistan, Pakistan, Central Asia, Europe, Canada and the US through an essay contest and motivation letter. On the Turkish side, 22 Turks from different universities based in Istanbul will participate in the Forum.
The opening ceremony will take place on 18 October with the Rector of Kadir Has University, Prof.Dr. Mustafa Aydin, the Afghan Consul in Istanbul and NATO officials. Amb. Tacan Ildem will represent the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs which supported the Forum and will deliver a keynote speech on Turkey's engagement in Afghanistan. Turkey will also provide a field expertise with Alp Isikli, Civilian Coordinator in the Turkish Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT) in Wardak region.
In addition, an exhibit showing Turkey's contributions to Afghanistan organized by TIKA (Turkish Cooperation and Development Agency) will be displayed during the whole week.
Afghan Students will also have the opportunity to present the culture, history, traditions and arts of their country.
The Afghan Ministry of High Education and the US Mission to NATO are also supporting the event during which video conferences will also take place between Istanbul and Afghan universities.
The event will be covered by NATO TV Channel and Turkish media.
