Kadir Has University, which since 2001 has been engaged in efforts to develop the surrounding area and set up local social programs, has again taken the lead in development with the Neighbourhood Project which was designed with the needs of the Cibali area and local residents in mind. The project is under the supervision of the Corporate Social Responsibility Committee, which was established under the leadership of the rector, Prof. Dr. Mustafa Aydın.
To set the Neighbourhood Project into motion, an initial meeting was hosted on the 27th of July, 2010 by Kadir Has University. The meeting was attended by the Cibali Neighbourhood Committee, which is comprised of local prominent figures, and the Mayor of Fatih, Mustafa Demir, together with his delegates.
The meeting was led by Prof. Dr. Mustafa Aydın and was geared towards soliciting the ideas and opinions of local residents about social responsibility works to be undertaken in the area. The district leader of Cibali and a delegate of 13 tradesmen from the neighbourhood also joined in to voice their views about the project.
Within the scope of the project, the staff and students of Kadir Has University aim to implement such projects as health screenings, development of the local urban and architectural fabric, film and theatre screenings for local residents, and the setting up of collaborations with neighbourhood schools for sports, cultural and educational activities.
Two meetings will be held yearly in order to solicit the views and opinions of residents of the neighbourhood, as this will facilitate decision-making about the social responsibility projects to be undertaken according to their own expressed needs and desires.
