Greek-Turkish Young Leaders Symposium on Security

07 December 2018 - Friday

The Center for International and European Studies (CIES) is organizing the 4th Greek-Turkish Young Leaders Symposium (GTYLS) on Security. The Greek-Turkish Young Leaders Symposium (GTYLS) on Security will include the participation of 15 Greek and 15 Turkish International Relations specialists (MA students, PhD candidates, young PhD scholars, and professionals), aged 22-35 years old, and Greek and Turkish experts that will act as speakers and trainers on 12-15 December 2018 at Kadir Has University in Istanbul in partnership with the Thessaloniki-based Navarino Network and Conflictus and the support of Friedrich Naumann Stiftung,  NATO Public Diplomacy Division and the Jean Monnet European Centre of Excellence at the University of Athens.

The GTYLS includes sessions on “Understanding the Transactional Global Order”, “The Young Leaders Dimension”, “The State of Play in Greek-Turkish Relations”, “The Perspective of Journalists”, and “A NATO Perspective”. All debates and discussions will be channeled into the “Facilitated Ideation Workshop” facilitated by expert trainers where participants will work together to develop collaborative project proposals.

Please note that the language of the Symposium is English.

The organizers will cover round trip airfare from Athens/Thessaloniki to Istanbul (for the Greek participants); accommodation in Istanbul for the duration of the Symposium (3 nights including breakfast for all non-Istanbul based participants); lunch for 4 days; and two dinners. Please note that although the Symposium is open to participants from all parts of Turkey and Greece and they are especially encouraged to apply, the organizers will only provide for air travel between Istanbul and Athens/Thessaloniki. The CIES may provide on a need basis a small travel stipend for those attending the Symposium from elsewhere in Turkey.
