9th Annual Kadir Has Awards

On the 22nd of March, 2013, a ceremony was held to commemorate the sixth anniversary of the passing of Kadir Has, the founder of our university, and this was followed by the ninth annual Kadir Has Achievement Awards.

The ceremony was attended by Nuri Has, the head of Kadir Has Foundation’s board of trustees, Prof. Mustafa Aydın, the rector of Kadir Has University, Hüseyin Avni Mutlu, the mayor of Istanbul, and Bartholomew I, the Patriarch of the Fener Greek Orthodox Church, as well as students and academic and administrative staff.

In his speech, Nuri Has noted that the Kadir Has Foundation has nearly completed its goal of founding thirty primary and secondary schools, and he thanked the Yeniköy Greek Foundation for their generous cooperation with their efforts.

Prof. Dr. Mustafa Aydın noted during the ceremony that Kadir Has’ dedication to education and philanthropy are the guiding principles for the work the university carries out, including the Rights of Neighbors project which aims to foster a sustainable sense of community and development in the local area.

Achievement Awards Granted to Prof. K. Daron Acemoğlu and Dr. Ali Koşar

Prof. K. Daron Acemoğlu from the Department of Economics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology was granted the Excellence Award for his major contributions to theories of economic development. The Promising Scientist Award was granted to Dr. Ali Koşar, an instructor at Sabancı University’s Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences, for his innovative research and publications on fluid mechanics. Additionally, Bartholomew I, Patriarch of the Fener Greek Orthodox Church, was awarded the Kadir Has University Gratitude for Friendship and Neighbors Award for his support for the university.
