A public debate on “Turkey and the West: The Role of Public Opinion”

The German Marshall Fund of the United States and the Center for International and European Studies (CIES) at Kadir Has University are organizing a public debate on “Turkey and the West:  The Role of Public Opinion” to be held at Kadir Has University on 15 September 2011 at 13:00 hrs (D Blok Sinema Salonu A).

The event will begin with the first public presentation of Transatlantic Trends 2011 – a public opinion survey in its tenth consecutive year that measures broad public opinion in the United States, Turkey, and 11 European Union countries and gauges transatlantic relations through interviews with more than 13,000 people. The presentation will be followed by two discussion panels on “Turkish Foreign Policy and Public Opinion During a time of Transformation,” which will focus on the evolution of the mindset among Turkish elites and the general public on foreign policy issues over the last decade and “Turkish Public Opinion towards the West and Western Institutions,” which will address the reasons for the failing support for Western institutions in Turkey.
