The Center for International and European Studies (CIES) at Kadir Has University in collaboration with the Head of the Turkish Network of the Anna Lindh Foundation (ALF) Network cordially invite you to a open panel on "Believe in Dialogue, Act for Citizenship". The panel will consist of a discussion between ALF Heads of Network from Turkey, Egypt and Greece and Young Network Members from Tunisia and Egypt on Exchanging practices on Participation and Democracy.
The purpose of the Anna Lindh Foundation which is based in Alexandria, Egypt, is to bring people together from across the Mediterranean to improve mutual respect between cultures and to support civil society working for a common future of the Region. Since its founding in 2005, the ALF has launched and supported action across fields impacting on mutual perceptions among people of different cultures and beliefs, as well as developing a region-wide Network of over 3000 civil society organisations. Through its action and reflection, the ALF aims to contribute to the development of an Intercultural Strategy for the Euro-Mediterranean Region, providing recommendations to decision-makers and institutions and advocating for shared values.
The events taking place in Egypt, Tunisia and elsewhere across the Mediterranean South have sparked interest and empathy across the Euro-Mediterranean societies. Most of the Networks of the Foundation have expressed their admiration and solidarity with the Egyptian and Tunisian societies. They have already suggested the launching of a common Initiative focused on fostering citizenship and participation as a first answer to events, which deserve, of course, a long term and sustainable response for an institution like the Anna Lindh Foundation. This meeting aspires to contribute to a better understanding of what these developments mean and how to move forward.
The event will take place on Thursday, 14 April 2011 at 18 p.m. at the Cibali Auditorium of Kadir Has University (Kadir Has Caddesi, Cibali - Istanbul). The discussion is expected to end by 20:00 pm.
