New York Style Film Production Workshop Begins March 26

08 April 2011 - Friday

Starting March 26, Kadir Has University will be hosting a workshop by the well-known director and producer Fehmi Gerçeker, an adherent of the New York style of film, which was established in the 1950s in opposition to the Hollywood film industry. We are proud to be hosting this event in Turkey, as this is the third time this workshop will be held after being offered in the U.S. and Brazil.

The New York Style Film Production Workshop, which will be held on seven consecutive Saturdays, from 10 A.M. to 5 P.M., will cover every step of the film production process through the collaborative efforts of participants.

Starting with the raw concept that launches a film, the workshop will then proceed, through participant’s active interaction, to examine each and every aspect of film production, including scripting, casting, set selection, shooting, directing and editing.

Fehmi Gerçeker firmly believes in the philosophy that one learns by doing, and thus from the very first day participants will be encouraged to take up the camera themselves, to learn just how films are made. The workshop enables participants to put into practice the knowledge and skills they have acquired. According to Gerçeker, “The workshop encourages participants to develop their self-confidence and be open to making mistakes. By the end of the workshop, they will have gone through every step of the production process as they create their own works, which is an unrivalled experience for film studies students.”

Space is limited to ensure that participants can get the most from the workshop.
