Dr. Lecturer Didem Türkoğlu was elected as a board member of the European Sociology Association’s social movements research network
24 October 2024Dr. Didem Türkoğlu, one of the faculty members in the Core Program of our university, has been elected as a board member of the European Sociological Association’s Research Network on Social Movements.
Dr. Didem Türkoğlu
Didem Türkoğlu is a political sociologist. Currently, she is an assistant professor at the Core Program, Kadir Has University, Istanbul, Turkey. She completed her PhD in sociology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, in one of the top programs in sociology in the United States. She received scholarships from Fulbright, the University of North Carolina, and the UNC European Studies Center/ European Union. Dr. Türkoğlu’s research interests focus on political sociology, social movements, media, and studies of social inequalities. Her articles appeared in Social Movement Studies, South European Society and Politics, Mobilization, Current Sociology, Social Media +Society, Sociology Compass, and Journal of Democracy.
Having started her academic path with the broadest goal of understanding how the world works, she scaled it down to trying to understand how and why societies change. Her approach to sociological inquiry stems from her expertise in other fields and the variety of questions she studies. Before her doctorate, she received a BA degree in Political Science and International Relations at Boğaziçi University, and double majored in History. She also holds MA degrees in modern Turkish history, nationalism studies, and sociology.
