Lecture by Dr. András Gyenge, Consul General, Republic of Hungary
on the
“Priorities and Challenges of the Hungarian Presidency of the EU”

CIES organized a meeting with Dr. András Gyenge, Consul General of the Republic of Hungary who spoke on “The Priorities and Challenges of the Hungarian Presidency of the European Union.” Ambassador Gyenge discussed what the Hungarian government’s political priorities will be when they assume the presidency of the European Union Commission in January of 2011. In addition, he discussed the issue of membership into the EU for Turkey and other western Balkan nations, the Danube River strategy, and the Black Sea Synergy. Ambassador Gyenge also mentioned ways the EU can come out of the global economic crisis; the Hungarian government’s integration policies; the EU’s common energy and security problems; and the EU’s relationships with its neighbors. The speech was followed by a question and answer session.
