Meeting of the Task Force on Combating Nuclear Terrorism in the Black Sea

Co-organized by CIES, the Harvard Black Sea Security Program, the Center for Technology, Security, and Public Policy at Virginia Tech, and the International Centre for Black Sea Studies (By invitation only)

Kadir Has University hosted the meeting of a team of 25 experienced diplomats, government officials, academics, and representatives from non-governmental organizations, who came together to form a task force to analyze the current state of combating nuclear terrorism in the Black Sea region and to exchange ideas on possible future strategies. Specific topics discussed during the meeting included: global efforts to combat nuclear terrorism; the effectiveness of the legal framework in the Black Sea region in protecting nuclear materials; forming regional strategic partnerships to combat terrorism; and steps needed to be taken to strengthen partnerships.
